Little England, West Sussex
A converted Oast House and contemporary new build nestled in the Weald of Sussex. LDC created a landscape fusing modern lines with naturalised planting reflecting both the building architecture and countryside location. The landscape also incorporated a number of SUDS and habitat creations which were sensitive to the sites rural locality.
The SUDS helped navigate all surface water of the new build and surrounding hard standings to the existing lake via the main lawn. This was done by creating a swale landscaped within the existing lawn. The treatment also helped reduce the problem of surface water experienced to the existing lawn.
A habitat Pond was constructed utilising the stream running through the site. This required the dredging and re-landscaping of the original pond and temporary culverting of the source watercourse in order to carry out the build. Following excavations and sculpting of the pond a bentonite clay liner was installed to water proof the base of the pond.
Further elements of the garden included installation of a wild flower meadow , deer fencing to the sites perimeter, boardwalks navigating an existing lake and bog garden, large earthworks to the immediate garden adjacent to house and the procurement and installation of all the plants.
